We had some fun a few weeks ago, surprising one of my students, Ruby, on her 6th birthday by riding a few horses over to her house (call it a perk of living only a mile from the barn.)
Ruby's beloved lesson horse Rusty was adorned in a handmade (by her crafty mom) unicorn horn, which was appropriate because Ruby's birthday party that day was unicorn-themed. I give her props for breaking from the Frozen-theme mold, but I'm not at all surprised by her choice of party theme...Ruby routinely shows up for lessons wearing either a unicorn shirt or unicorn leggings, or both.
I was pretty sure I wouldn't get old Rusty to leave the farm without a few other horses going with him, so I asked a new student, Ciarra, to came over and ride her horse out with Callae and me. She showed up with her dad, who is a police officer. Callae and I decided that he should ride Rusty. It takes a confident man to ride a horse wearing an enormous flowery pink unicorn horn....He gets lots of dad-points for going with it. But, uh, we're keeping this photo in our glove compartments in case we ever get pulled over.
It was fun putting a big smile on the birthday girl's face, and initiating Ciarra and her dad into the culture here. And by culture I mean we will occasionally peer-pressure you into doing embarrassing things for our entertainment and delight. ;) Welcome to Sioux River Stables! Ha!
