The shows are done for the year, the days are getting shorter and the nights cooler, the bugs are finally dying off, the ponies are starting to sprout the fuzzy beginnings of what will eventually be their winter coats (and then proceed to shed it all back off again during the day because it's still in the high 70's most days!), and we are all winding down from a busy and productive summer.
It's fall! My most-favorite time of year, because of the perfect weather and because it's a time for relaxing, savoring the remaining sunshine, and reflecting on the lessons learned and the progress made. It's my habit to take as many trail rides and hacks outside as possible during September and October. I know we'll be cooped up inside all winter long, so this little window of perfect weather and fewer bugs is really special and must be taken advantage of.
And what better way to reward your horse for working hard during the summer on all those sweaty days than to get out and let him or her feel the wind in their mane? :) Go enjoy yo'selves.
